Regina's StoryWe dedicate this tribute to Regina Hsieh, Ichen Art Academy's most senior student, who passed away in 2017 at the remarkable age of 99. Regina embarked on her Chinese painting journey in 2011, at 93 years old. Before that, she spent many years refining her oil painting skills at a local senior center. Upon discovering Ichen Art Academy online, Regina became captivated by our Chinese painting offerings and decided to embrace this new artistic pursuit. For the following four years, she remained one of our most devoted and diligent students. Every Wednesday afternoon, she and her daughter Ming, also a student, would drive to our academy. Regina would then join her fellow students, who were often younger than her own grandchildren, to practice the fundamentals of Chinese painting for hours on end, frequently staying well beyond the class's conclusion. Her dedication bore fruit, as she soon mastered the art of creating stunning Chinese paintings. Regina's unwavering self-sufficiency, thirst for exploration, and lifelong passion for art serve as shining examples for us all. Her embodiment of the adage "It's never too late to learn" or, in Chinese, "活到老，学到老," has left an indelible mark on the entire Ichen Art Academy community. Regina Hsieh will forever be cherished and remembered in our hearts. |

Oil Painting and WatercolorIntroduction to color theory how oil or watercolor works, learn utilization of color. You will learn still life, landscape and animals oriented more complicated in color and structure. There’s also a more advanced one which is an oil painting portrait. Chinese Painting and CalligraphyUsing an impressionistic palette, we will study how the quality of light and atmospheric conditions effects the mood on the landscape. |
